Perched on top of a pile of huge boulders, The Rockpile feels a bit like being in an upscale treehouse. Up a series of rock pathways interspersed with 49 stairs, the view of the lake, less than 50 yards away, is phenomenal and the house, built in 1935, exudes the charm, serenity and rustic elegance of Tahoe's bygone days. The views and setting are unsurpassed. The place has soul.
You can't beat the premium location in Brockway. You are minutes away from practically everything the area has to offer with popular Speedboat Beach, which is only a 3-minute walk, and larger King's Beach with water-sport equipment rentals only a 3-minute drive. Pristine hiking and biking trails, markets, fine restaurants, and almost all of Tahoe's notable attractions, including the small North Shore casino area, are all within minutes of the property.
The Rockpile has 3 comfortable bedroom areas spanning several levels, each of which is accessed from the outside via its own entrance with no interior staircase. The top floor consists of the kitchen, master bedroom, 2 bathrooms, 3 decks (1 with a hot tub, another with a BBQ), and an inviting living room complete with a large fireplace, 2 sofas (one being a queen sofa sleeper), a dining table, and a wall of windows with a 180-degree view of the lake.
The kitchen, though small, is very efficient and exceptionally well equipped. Enjoy the sunset and dinner on the lakeside deck which affords a sweeping view of the lake to the northwest. The BBQ deck, located outside the kitchen, looks towards the south and east while the back deck, nestled in among the boulders, affords a peek toward the east side of the lake and provides a cozy, very private place to have breakfast with the early morning sun, get out of the late afternoon wind, or to enjoy the hot tub.
The Squirrel's Nest is down one level. This bedroom features 2 Twin beds, a bathroom, and a small closet. Down a few more stairs and you will come to The Dog House, a charming small cabin decorated with dog memorabilia, with a Queen bed, bathroom, and electric fireplace, as well as a microwave oven, coffee pot and electric water kettle so your guests can let you sleep in while they have a cup of coffee on their own private deck.
The Rockpile blends old charm with modern amenities including wireless internet access and a 52" flat screen TV with expanded basic cable and a DVD player (located in the master bedroom). Out the kitchen and one level down from the main floor, there's an office with plenty of counter space, perfect if you need to get a little work done during your stay. A washer and dryer are tucked into this room, as well.
The Rockpile is one of 3 houses at the end of a private road. The owners live full time next door (at the bottom of the stairs) - the owners and other nearby neighbors ask that there be no loud music or parties at the house which would destroy the quiet and serenity of the area.
Just like most homes in Tahoe, this home does not have AC and is not advertised on the listing. We suggest opening the windows!
