Positive: I have traveled to many remote corners of the globe, but Khuvsgul Lake might be my new favourite! I found Dalai Eej Resort on Google Maps as I was not perfectly content with the other options, and it ended up being a good choice. The hospitality here is wonderful. I really appreciated the free hot breakfast every morning, which included fried eggs, sausage, pastries, and clotted cream. You also get unlimited refills of soup, congee, and coffee. It’s good fuel to tide you over for a few hours of quite vigorous activity. I found the lunch and dinner options to be affordable and tasty as well. There are enough activities here to fill a whole week. The resort includes several free options like kayaking, a guided hike, and use of the sauna. Since I skipped the boat tour, I spent a free afternoon exploring Hatgal. It is well worth visiting. The market is great for souvenirs. They sell animal furs, bones, and local foodstuffs like smoked fish to bring home. Locals recommended I check out a site of recovered underwater wrecks. As a history buff, it was fascinating to walk around the rusty vehicles and read the English signs explaining their history. I had an unmatched sense of scale and freedom. The true magic of this hotel isn't its amenities (which are wonderful and cozy), but the estate itself. The grounds don't "end," they just bleed into the woods and hills. My favourite thing to do was to walk into the woods or along the shore, where there was no one around. I would bring a blanket for me to sit on to read, and take a nap under the shade of a tree. I could do this for days. I would recommend you to come here if you want to feel completely disconnected from the modern world and reconnect with nature and yourself.

Negative: I must mention one hiccup regarding the transfer. If you have a fear of water or boats, please be advised, the airport transfer includes a short boat ride for the final leg of the journey. This was not communicated to me at booking. As someone who is genuinely afraid of boats, being surprised by this triggered a lot of unnecessary anxiety right at the start. Had I known, I could have mentally prepared. Once I was on dry land, the anxiety vanished, but the resort should be transparent about this for future guests.
